Little Bird

Wood Engraving with oil-based ink
Hot press paper, 2"x3"

This was inspired by Brewer's Blackbirds that congregate in groups all over the sidewalk in my neighborhood. They look cute and dangerous with their shiny, sharp little beaks and their bright yellow eyes. Combine sharp little birds with a cold day, and you get a sharp, fluffy little birds similar to this one.

O! Beyond!

Wood Engraving
2"x2", 2005

On the water there is no path to follow, you may go any direction you please. The horizon is your only limit. A small tribute to my late, great, boat building grandfather.

Moon on Water

Mezzotint hand worked plate
4"x4", 2005

Inspired by a view from Fox Island, WA. An August night with a few mosquitoes, the sound of the waves, and the smell of the beach. The plankton is blooming, and the rocks sparkle when you pick them up. Nowhere else could be better.

Self Portrait with Gills

Dry Point Etching with Xerox Lithograph
Etching paper with oil-based ink, 5"x8", 2003

A self portrait exploring the idea of growth and development of life from one environment to another. The growth and development of lungs in frogs is inversely proportional to the size of their gills as tadpoles. The wing-like form of the gills becomes internalized, as does the ability to rely on oneself in time and experience.

Woman's Side

Speedy Cut on manila folder
Split Fountain, 1.5"x3", 2004

Another small Speedy Cut exploring the graceful female form. The female body is a recurring theme in my work. It is a fascinating subject that allows me to use my own self-consciousness and self-awareness of my human body to explore form and expression.

Woman's Back

Speedy Cut on found paper
3"x6", 2005

A small Speedy Cut print on found paper of a woman's back. The graceful curves of the feminine form lend themselves well to the smooth lines available in this medium.

Self Portrait (Set of Three)

Hard ground copperplate etching
(one with aquatint), 3"x3", 2005

These are three versions of a self portrait created in the late spring of 2005. It was first etched and printed in two different colored editions after which two aquatints were added to create the background tones.
